Regulation on the transport of pets

As of 1st September 2019, the transport of pets is permitted on EAV, rail, car and cable car carriers under the following terms and conditions:

General rules

To transport a pet, you must always carry a pet registration certificate and health card. A pet passport is valid for foreign nationals. Guide dogs are exempt from this requirement.

The pet must be supervised during the journey. Dogs of all sizes must be kept on a leash and muzzled at all times, or, if small, may be transported in a carrier that does not exceed the following dimensions: 70x30x50 cm.

The responsibility, including for any damage, shall be borne by the tenant.

Animals may not occupy seats and if they cause disturbance, the on-board staff will invite the traveller to move to another seat and if there are no seats available, the animal must get off at the first stop.

The transport of the above-mentioned animals (with the exception of guide dogs for the blind people) may be limited or excluded, at the sole discretion of the train manager/driver, in the event of crowding or any other risk to passengers.

No more than two animals, besides guide dogs, are allowed per carriage/vehicle, as long as the safety, comfort and hygiene conditions of the passengers are respected in the opinion of EAV staff.

Only one animal per traveller is allowed.

It is not permitted to transport an animal of any size from Monday to Friday from 7.00 am to 9.00 am. These restrictions do not apply to the transport of pets in cable cars.

The guide dog for the blind people may always travel on all carriers free of charge, without any obligation or time limitation.

Fares:

Small dogs, cats and other small pets: free transport

Medium/large dogs: same fare as the traveller. The traveller must therefore purchase a ticket for the accompanying animal for the same amount as the one-way fare for the route to be travelled.

The discount for residents on the islands of Ischia and Procida, as well as for the Funivia del Faito is also extended to pets.

The accompanying person must also validate the ticket for the pet.

Guide dogs for the blind: free transport, with no limitations.

Penalties:

Irregular transport or the lack of a ticket, if required, will result in penalties being applied and the passenger must get off at the first stop.
